Rhythm Bar

Take a dive into history with this expansive, subterranean revival bar named for its midcentury progenitor, a classic speakeasy located in its original location in DTLA.

The club, which was founded in the 1920s, was one of the attractions of the hotel at the corner of Sixth and Spring streets in the city's financial district. It was one of the city's first high-rise buildings when it went up in 1905, and architects John and Donald Parkinson (City Hall and Union Station) gave it its current form in 1925. Unfortunately the Rhythm Room closed in the 1970s after the Hayward Hotel upstairs fell into dereliction. Thankfully, the new owners have reopened the bar with an eye to preserving the underground jazz club vibe, complete with marble staircases, classy cocktails, and live music.
