Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this inaugural Dubai sale comes on the heels of the opening of Sotheby's first gallery in DIFC. The eclectic selection includes everything from Islamic art, to Orientalist, 20th century and contemporary art, as well as design pieces, books, manuscripts, and jewellery - all tied together under the unified theme of art from or inspired by the Middle East.
Highlights include a Damien Hirst etching, The Souls on Jacob’s Ladder Take Their Flight; A black & white photograph of Fouad El-Khoury, one of the Arabian world's best known actresses; An installation of painted wooden blocks by French-Moroccan Yto Barrada; Palestinian-American artist Samia Halaby's Michelangelo Perspective oil on canvas; A historic video of travellers going to Mecca; Letters by Khalil Gibran, plus various other rare and prized pieces collected from around the world.
