My Perfect Day - Niccoló Barattieri

Urbanologist and leading property developer Niccoló Barattieri, shares with U his perfect day...

How do you start your day?

By doing the school run with my girls Apollina and Violetta. I cannot think of a better way to start my day. Once I am actually able to get them in the car there is a lot of singing going on.

Leisurely lunch go to?

Leisurely lunch!!! I tend not to have lunch during the week, and if I do it is at my desk. The few times I go out I either go to Lucio's on the Fulham Road for great spaghetti alle vongole or to the Arts Club for their red prawn ceviche and corn salad.

Favourite way to pass the time in London?

Going on long walks around Chelsea. Even though I have lived there for 20 years, I notice something new and different every time. And on Sunday mornings I play five-a-side football with my son Ludovico. Great 'friendly' games where neither of us want to lose…. the problem is that I then struggle to get around for a few days much to his amusement.

Favourite London landmarks, and why?

My office looks onto the River Thames and its ability to instil a sense of serenity to counterbalance the daily mayhem makes it a firm favourite of mine. Building-wise the Jewel Tower is a hidden gem, literally. We recently hosted a dinner there and discovered its colourful history. It is one of the very few remaining parts of the medieval Palace of Westminster which survived the fire of 1834.

Tipple of choice and favourite cocktail hangout?

Has to be a Campari Sour and nobody does it better than the Connaught Bar. The Connaught manages to marry fantastic cocktails with the best service and the most glamorous of settings. Max, the General Manager, runs an impeccable operation and always knows how to look after his clientele. His attention to detail is second to none.

Favourite dining destinations, and why?

Several, it depends what I am in the mood for. Beast has the best steak in London and their crab legs are pretty incredible too. Umu for Japanese, the sea urchin sashimi is to die for. I am also a big fan of Bocca di Lupo in Soho.

Final stop for a nightcap, and why?

My new 'local' is Blakes Hotel. I often stop by after work for a quick bite to eat and a good glass of Italian wine. It then happens that friends come in and it turns into a very late night in the bar downstairs.

Best hangover remedy?

I am not a big drinker, so hangovers are few and far between… however, breakfast at Dean Street Town House is incredible and is sure to cure a sore head!

Where next on your travels?

Several trips already planned for this year. In April I am taking the children to the Seychelles and will be staying at the H Hotel. A great little resort with impeccable service. For Christmas we will be going to Mustique and renting a villa.
