Over twenty years ago, Frédéric Vaucamps opened his first patisserie in Lille and became a national sensation with his delicious tempting ‘merveilleux’ - mini-meringues coated in chocolate whipped cream, then covered in chocolate shavings. Now, the pastry chef extraordinaire has boutiques in Paris, Berlin, and London, among others.
A visit to one of his seven Paris boutiques will have U thinking U are watching a live cooking show, as chefs busy themsleves near the windows preparing fresh ‘merveilleux’. Alongside time and fame, has come experience, and now the patisseries offer a variety of choices on popular French desserts.
Needless to say the merveilleux here is a must, but we also recommend U also try the speculoos cookies made with white chocolate, or coffee, nuts, caramel or cherry. The hot chocolate here is also divine, so if U have a sweettooth for it (as we do) then do try it.
There are several Aux Merveilleux de Fred boutiques in the capital but our personal favourite is the 7th arrondissement, which is conveniently located in the city centre.
Take away treat.
