Frida Kahlo-inspired Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough
Inspired by the opening of the most talked about exhibition of the year, Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the new afternoon tea by The Lanesborough’s Head Pastry Chef Gabriel Le Quang celebrates the colours, shapes and textures of the life of the Mexican artist. Tea commences with a taste of Agua de Jamaica, the classic Mexican water flavoured with hibiscus typically drank in the Mexican merienda (afternoon tea period), alongside traditional scones and accompaniments, and some classic afternoon tea sandwiches with the pastry selection inspired by the life of Frida: For the full merienda experience, order hot chocolate or a Mexican spiced hot chocolate. Priced from just £39.00.
Las Flores de México at Ella Canta
The V&A’s Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up displays the late Mexican artist’s personal possessions, celebrating a creative force who has long inspired Ella Canta's Chef Patron Martha Ortiz. Her limited-edition as Flores de México menu offers a taste of summer and encapsulates the inspiration that she finds in flowers, colour, art, and femininity. Begin with La Casa Azul, a striking aperitif named after Frida Kahlo’s Mexico City home, which blends Casa Dragones Blanco Tequila, Acqua di Cedro, lavender, lime and Créme de Violette. Dishes include red snapper aguachile with cucumber sorbet, crispy maize pancake and edible flowers and Turbot with stuffed zucchini flower and Pink mole with stuffed chicken and a crown of flowers. The Las Flores de México menu is available at Ella Canta until the 28th July, with the six-course tasting menu priced at £85pp.
