This is no regular speakeasy bar, sure the NYC prohibition style is well and alive with caged staircase (that leads to the bar downstairs), exposed brick walls, chesterfield couches, wooden furniture, low-lighting and lively music, but Le Calbar sets itself apart from other such estalishments with some real prohibition era fun and naughtiness.
Listen up ladies, here hot waiters dispense delicious cocktail concoction in a rather sexy ensemble - underwear with apron, braces and bow tie (and nothing else). Youza! Patrons are also invited to take part in the fun through a monthly apéro event - 'underwear as outerwear', prerequisite for both sexes. Don't worry they don't expect you to show up to the bar like an 80s Madonna, instead a dressing room is provided where you can disrobe in peace before joining the other party revellers.
As for the cocktails and spirits rest assured that the venue only dispenses premium brands and selections, and cocktails are mixed to perfection. If hunger strikes Le Calbar has thought of that too with simple, yet comforting options, such as a club sandwich and charcutterie boards.
All in all, this hip little venue is quite the secret gem.
