The Mermaid

Little Tokyo’s new cocktail bar is bringing nautical-themed drinks, boozy snow cones and tropical bites to Honda Plaza.

Owned and operated by Arelene Roldan (formerly of Bar One Tap Room) and Katie Kildow (ex Verdugo Bar), the 50-seat bar is not just female run but also female focused and aims to be the neighborhood's new community spot.

Its exotic selection of cocktails includes The Mermaiden Voyage: made with two types of rum, housemade lime cordial, hibiscus syrup and served over ice with a coconut salt rim; or the Boozy Snow Cones like Tequila Watermelon, Vodka Cherry Limeade or Rum with Pineapple Coconut.  Guests can also enjoy straight forward classic cocktails like Drink Your Vegetables, a martini made with dry gin, dry vermouth, celery bitters, house-made pickle bring and skewer of Kildow’s famous pickled vegetables. 

The menu features a mix of small plates and shareable dishes including Tangy Spicy Chicken Wings, Shrimp Remoulade served on Hawaiian rolls, Hearts of Palm Ceviche, and the house-made Tropical Chex Mix. For night owls, The Mermaid’s late night menu will include fun finger foods like Queso n’ Chips, Hot Dogs (and Veggie Dogs) and gourmet popcorn topped with a variety of seasonings from sweet to savory.

With the look hinting at an underwater oasis, The Mermaid is outfitted with dark woods and rich leathers, making it a cozy environment to enjoy a great cocktail (or two).
