Gazala's

After closing in 2015, this Middle Eastern favorite returns on the Upper West Side complete with its popular paper-thin pitas.

Gazala’s Restaurant is the creation of Gazala Halabi and the focus is on Druze cuisine, the food of an Israeli minority religion with roots mainly in the Middle East. Gazala prepares all dishes from scratch using imported spices and herbs and her recipes - handed down over the generations - combines the flavors of Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan.

The menu offers the usual hummus and falafel as well as the signature Druze pitas, which are paper thin and light. More unusual dishes include vine leaves stuffed with rice and meat, cheese cigars (dough shells with spiced potato purée), and pita-style pies. Main courses are all about grilled meats - try the Moshakal, a chef’s selection of four types of meat.
