W Barcelona's resident W Insider, Jordi San Jose, shares with you his secret tips to make the most of your stay in the capital of Catalonia

Best place for early evening cocktails: Marea Baja

Experience a 25-story, 360 degree view of Barcelona with inventive tapas and crafted cocktails. "Marea Baja has an amazing cocktail menu and 360 degree views of Barcelona from the 25th floor. It’s the cherry on top of this downtown office building. Top tip: Don’t be afraid to try the innovative and unexpected sangrias." Pictured.

Best new spot: Blue Spot

Situated in the Port Vell area at the back of the W Hotel, this new hot spot has possibly the most spectacular terrace in all of Barcelona. "Blue Spot is the newest addition to the Barcelona waterfront. Hidden on top of a new (and empty) office building is an oasis of nature, design, beauty and incredible Mediterranean food. Did I mention amazing views? THAT as well. Top tip: Call ahead of time to book a table. It doesn’t get better than table 46 on the terrace."

Best iconic restaurant: L'Olive

L'Olive was established in 1984 and quickly became one of Barcelona's landmarks for Catalan cuisine. "L’Olivé is a total Barcelona super-classic, the ultimate Catalan food experience. If I could only have one meal in Barcelona, I would have it here. Top tip: Ask for a table in the courtyard. Pure fantasy."

Best place for late night parties: Zuu Club

Inspired by famous clubs in New York and Paris - this is the place to enjoy gastronomic delights whilst an exciting and unpredictable live cabaret and music show takes place right before your eyes. "Zuu Club is luxurious, mysterious, sexy and fun. There’s nothing like it in Barcelona and for sure the best place to party. It’s the dream you don’t want to wake up from. Top tip: Go big or go home. Book a table for dinner there and enjoy the show before the venue turns into a club."

Best place to work out: CNAB

A municipal sports centre in Barcelona on the beach of San Sebastia near Barceloneta. "CNAB has been a downtown referent for over 100 years! Gym, spinning, fitness classes, 3 outdoor and 1 indoor swimming pools, padel tenis courts and direct access to the beach. Everything! Top tip: It-s not advertised anywhere but they sell day passes for 12€. It’s the best option for visitors. Stay fit, stay you!"

The place no one knows about: Plaça d'Isidre Nonell

"Literally 2 blocks away from the Cathedral of Barcelona, this tiny little square goes unnoticed for most. Those know it will agree it’s one of the most beautiful and romantic spots in the city thanks to the photo-mosaic The world begins with every kiss by Catalan artist Joan Fontcuberta. Top tip: Find the square, love it, kiss someone and post it! This is the most instagramable place of Barcelona."
