Named after the legendary Southern Pacific train of the 1930s, the new brewpub is situated in the Art Deco-Navajo space formerly occupied by the storied Fred Harvey Restaurant, which shuttered in 1967. The opening marks a new era of eating and drinking for the 75,000 commuters who make their way through the iconic Union station each day.
The cavernous, brass-tinged main room is now home to the Imperial Western Beer Company’s beer bar that features antique-inspired lighting and leather booths that harken back to travel and train stations of the 1940s. Choose from a selection of craft beers brewed in-house, cocktails, an extensive oyster and raw bar menu and American classics from sampler platters and small plates to sandwiches and rotating Plats Du Jours.
Its cocktail counterpart, The Streamliner, is run by Eric Alperin, Max Seaman, and Mikki Kristola of The Varnish, this bar is just off the main room. Here classic cocktails take center stage. Martini, anyone?
