Idle Hour

Americana and roadside kitsch merge at this 1940s-built roadside attraction, re-imagined by the 1933 Group.

It’s not everyday that you encounter a bar in the shape of whiskey barrel. The only one of its kind, the Idle Hour was built in 1941 as a cheeky roadside attraction, and has been rescued from demolition and fully restored by the 1933 Group (Sassafras, Thirsty Crow, Harlowe and more).

Some libations recall the bar’s earliest days: the Rickey (one of the tap cocktails) mixes Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, lime, raspberry syrup, angostura and soda. Expect vintage-minded comfort food like Sloppy Joe sandwiches, beer-battered fish and chips and steak frites. In the summertime, the large back patio will host barbecues; now, it’s one of the few dog-friendly bar/restaurants in town.
