The general manager of the Gstaad Palace, shares with U his idea of a perfect day.

How do you start your day?

If I have no early meetings, I like to go for an early morning walk and then I enjoy together with Ivonne her 100% homemade muesli. 

Leisurely lunch go to? 

Whenever weather permitting, I love to have early lunch on one of the terraces at the Palace. Even though I’m a local boy, each time I fall again in love with the view. Our chef creates lovely daily menus and I enjoy tasting them and giving him my feedback after the meal. 

Favourite way to pass the time in Gstaad? 

I love my E-Bike and the local mountains and lakes. There is nothing that makes me happier than going for a bike ride in our beautiful surrounding nature.

Favourite Gstaad landmark, and why? 

There is no other way around this question: it is my Palace. It’s the lighthouse of Gstaad and it figures on different logos of local clubs to identify that they are based in Gstaad. 

Tipple of choice and favourite cocktail hangout? 

My favorite cocktail is the classic Negroni. In summer I love sitting on the terrace of the Rialto restaurant meeting guests and locals and watching the life in town. 

Favourite dining destination, and why? 

I love the Art Bar 16 in Saanen. It is cozy and at the same time lively. They master the art of mixing local and foreign diners. The steak from the grill is just mouthwatering. The owners Simon and Nik are great friends and gastronomes, we never run out of subjects to discuss.

Final stop for a nightcap, and why?

The Lobby Bar of the Palace with its fumoir that has the best view of Gstaad. I love an occasional cigar with my nightcap.

Rest hangover remedy?

I believe in prevention. Lots of water during the evening and before I go to bed I take an Alka-Seltzer. If I’m still suffering the next morning, I go for a hearty breakfast, fizzy water and exercise in the fresh air. 

Where next on your travels? 

I’m on the board of Leading Hotels of the World and this year we have the General Assembly in Shanghai. Before that I stop over in Beijing and on the way home we stop in the Maldives. Can’t wait to do this exciting trip.
