Oxalis

After taking Brooklyn by storm with its hugely popular pop-up dinners, Oxalis has found a permanent home for its constantly evolving six-course menu in Prospect Heights.

Moving on from Williamsburg’s no-thrills Egg restaurant Oxalis has settled in a more upmarket space that matches chef Nico Russell’s high-end cuisine. Featuring light wooden furnishings, light blue cushions and all-white walls the real highlight is an outside skylight garden that is enclosed in a wood-framed gazebo.

Having spent time in Michelin-starred restaurants such as Daniel and Mirazur Russell’s tasting menus focus on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. There are plenty of vegetable-centered snacks such as young carrots and chamomile, squash with burrata; and duck with sweet potatoes. An a la carte menu, served in the bar, offers more hearty dishes such as charred winter greens and cheddar toast, crispy pig trotter and mustard, and beef shoulder, endive, horseradish, black garlic. Drinks include signature cocktails such as a beeswax and lanolin Old Fashioned, a mineral-adjusted Martini, and Spritz infused with grapefruit oil.
