The Clocktower is every bit as decadent as its predecessor, the highly-acclaimed Berners Tavern in London. With mahogany wainscoting and gold-framed photographs covering the walls, the multi-roomed restaurant feels like an old New York social club, especially as you pass through the billiard room to the grand marble circular bar. The fashion forward crowd keeps things bang up-to-date, however, and no doubt this will be stage of fashion week parties to come.
Located on the second floor of Ian Schrager's just opened New York EDITION hotel, in the iconic former Metropolitan Life building, this is a joint project with Stephen Starr, owner of Morimoto and Buddakan. The restaurant will bring a taste of contemporary British dining to the city, with a seasonally-inspired menu ranging from the extravagant such as the dry-aged côte de boeuf with bone-marrow jus to the dressed up classics, such as Cornish fish stew or macaroni and cheese with ox cheek and morels. Handcrafted cocktails and a 300 bottle wine list will also be on offer.
