This hot address nestled within the Hotel Monte Cristo in the 5th arrondissement, is truly a den of rum dream delights. Boasting in over 500 rum references from all over the world, 1802 doesn't take its rum lightly. Indeed, the bar has been creating quite the buzz through Paris's 'it' crowd, which flocks to it for that rum experience that they really can't have anywhere else in the city.
Everything about 1802, exudes charm and that's including its interesting name. Why 1802? Simple, Why the date refers to the year Alexandre Dumas was born. He was the great-grandson of sugar cane plantation owner on the island of Saint Domingo.
Taking rum and rum making ever so seriously, 1802 chose Alexandre Vingtier (spirit experts and cofounder of the Rumporter magazine and author of “101 rums to discover”) to select its references and the result is a voyage around the world via its best rums.
Alongside the rums there is also a selection of Two soft cocktails, six great revisited classics – including the Rhum Old Fashioned and the Ti Punch 1802 fashion – and four creation cocktails. Do try the 'In Cachaça Veritas' based on Cachaça Abelha, red wine from Provence, lavender syrup, Aqua faba, flower bitter or the 'Honshu Island' made out of Japanese Nine Leaves rum, sake, Japanese toasted rice tea and yellow lemon oil.
