The Peninsula operates ten award-winning hotels in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Bangkok, Manila and Paris and soon to arrive in London. In a joint venture with Grosvenor Britain & Ireland and The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels are proposing a new 190-room landmark hotel at 1-5 Grosvenor Place, Belgravia in the West End of London. Designed by British-based Hopkins Architects, the new building will replace the existing offices at the site, built in the 1960s and very close in proximty to the (newly re-opened) Lanesborough Hotel.
In addition to guestrooms and spa, the hotel will have shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom. A grand pedestrian entrance on Grosvenor Place will be accessed from a colonnade linking to an internal ‘Palazzo-style’ courtyard allowing vehicle access. The proposed building also includes 24-28 residential apartments with a separate leisure and spa facility, reception and entrance on Halkin Street. Construction in set to start in the summer of 2017.
Peninsula Hotels have also recently announced another exciting joint venture - to develop a hotel (at a cost of €150 million) in Istanbul. The hotel will be built in the Salıpazarı Port located in the historic Karaköy area overlooking the Bosphorus strait.
