Built in 1793 by the first Earl of Carnarvon, London Lodge formalised the grand entry to Highclere Park, and was constructed to celebrate the Earl’s entry to the peerage. The individual lodges, to either side were added later (around 1840), and over the past two years they have been painstakingly restored by the current Earl and his wife to provide unique accommodation on the estate.
The interiors have been sympathetically restored with the layout for both lodges being kept simple yet inviting; to the north west, a charming sitting room arranged around a wood burner, and fully equipped kitchen behind. Then across the lit, paved walkway to the bedroom lodge, a comfortable double bedroom, bathroom and dressing area.
Both cottages are now available on a self-catering basis and priced from £350 a night. The perfect setting to enjoy the distinctive gardens and parklands designed by Capability Brown and even embark on the 'Downton Abbey' and Highclere Castle Tour to visit the majestic Jacobethan style country house - star of the hugely successful British television period drama (available from 26th of March to 31st of May). There's no need to ask Carson to make the reservation...
