Metrograph is the latest alternative cinema to grace New York streets. With two screening rooms (seating 171 in the larger and 46 in the smaller), a full "art deco American cuisine" restaurant and drink service that runs through till 2 am, this is a playhouse you can easily while away the hours in. By creating a multipurpose space, they purposely provided the neighborhood with more than just a cinema; they want to create an art space that guests will want to visit even if they're not there for a film.
With their super refined yet comfortable Commissary serving up proper food, drinks and old school glamorous vibes
Nearly six years in the making, the aim here is really to serve the community: Metrograph has partnered with Henry Street Settlement, a nonprofit that provides social services to New Yorkers living on the Lower East Side. With no direct neighbors, they will be open until 4 am providing an area for locals to gather. The films they will offer will cover both the independent set as well as some of the bigger budget films.
