The king of Peruvian cooking Gaston Acurio already has 44 restaurants worldwide, serving the best of his country’s native cuisine. His Astrid y Gastón restaurant overseen by Acurio’s long-time culinary cohort Diego Muñoz – is ranked 14 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants – is rumoured to have a London opening planned. It’s been mentioned that it might be similar to La Mar, which specialises in ceviche and has outposts in Lima, Miami and San Francisco.
Acurio already has a presence in London, with Michelin-starred restaurant Lima and Lima Floral, which he partnered with one of his former employees, Virgilio Martinez. La Mar is inspired by Lima's cevichería, the traditional hangout serves fresh fish and seafood to make ceviches, causas, rice and soups. La Mar is also famous for its cocktails, based on different kinds of pisco, the national spirit, and local fruits.
