Blind Dragon

The city's hottest nightspot brings speakeasy-style West Hollywood glamour to Dubai - complete with cool cocktails, DJ sets, and Karaoke suites.

The newest opening in the up-and-coming Al Habtoor City (is this the new DIFC?), this is only the second Blind Dragon to open in the world, after the original celeb-favoured Sunset Strip venue.

The 'risqué', Prohibition era-themed nightspot - the name is a play on similar underground Chinese bars that are known as Blind Pig/Tiger - oozes luxe Shanghai chic with its baroque wallpaper, rich banquettes, and contemporary light fixtures. A variety of Asian bar bites are on offer, but it's the extensive sake menu, and quirkily named mixology concoctions that take things to another level - think 'A bad workman blames his tools'; 'Stop existing, start living'; and 'Random means banana'!

A definite highlight is the 'Sing or die' private karaoke suites (karaoke seems to be making a comeback in Dubai with the glory days of Harry Ghatto's long gone, as London establishment Lucky Voice is also set to open next month) where state-of-the-art equipment will appeal to solo songsters and aspiring bands alike.

Blind Dragon Dubai is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 5 pm to 2 am.
