One of Japan’s leading ramen chefs, Masatoshi Ogata, has bought his acclaimed restaurant Yamagoya to London for a six-month residency. Hosted (upstairs) at hotpot restaurant Shuang Shuang in Shaftesbury Avenue and represents the first time that Ogata has brought his ramen to the UK. The popular Japanese ramen chain, which specialises in tonkotsu was founded by Masatoshi Ogata and originally opened in 1969 in the Fukuoka region of southern Japan on the island of Kyushu (the birthplace of ramen), and has since expanded across the entire region.

The restaurant (meaning 'mountain hut') interior is a replica of his original restaurant, with a stripped-back feel of shoji wood panelling inspired by the original restaurant built by Ogata himself.  The menu starts with dishes that include its signature Yamagoya ramen and spicy tobanjan ramen known to locals as ‘the fire of food’. U are also able to add your own toppings while snacks such as gyoza, chicken karaage and Japanese-style salads also feature.
