The Broad

The year's most highly anticipated art museum and restaurant opening is set for Fall 2015 on Grand Avenue in downtown L.A.

Contemporary art reigns in Los Angeles. Although there are some Old School Masters to be found around town at The Getty Museum, the Norton Simon, Huntington and LACMA, the excitement, energy and collectors surround the contemporary art scene. Eli and Edythe Broad have collected masterworks from the Pop Art era to today and their fortune is behind The Broad, set to open September 20th 2015. Designed by New York’s Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the museum’s façade is a honeycomb pattern of concrete, punctuated by a great eye or oculus. Next door, is a public garden with sunset and city views open now.

The inaugural exhibition will feature the best of the Broads' vast collection from Pop Art masters (Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein) to ultra-contemporary superstars such as photographer Cindy Sherman and Jeff Koons. Expect the art world en masse for the opening and first look at the now under wraps interiors that include a 35,000 square foot main gallery and as yet un-named restaurant from Bill Chait (Republique) in partnership with French Laundry alumni, chef Timothy Hollingsworth.
