NOW PLAYING By Cinema Akil

Don't miss the never-seen-before indie films being showcased at this summer pop-up at Al Serkal Avenue.

Brought to you by Dubai's definitive independent cinema club, the summer programme of nightly screenings has become something of an annual tradition at Al Serkal Avenue's industrial-style Warehouse 68.

This year's edition, Now Playing, brings an incomparable line-up of indie movies, ranging from timeless cult films, slasher horror tales, auteur works, and thrillers, to contemporary regional cinema, and socially-conscious documentaries, every evening until September 30 (most evenings have double screenings). Some highlights include the debut of Kedi, a heartwarming documentary following the street cats of Istanbul; Eleanor Coppola's first feature film starring Alec Baldwin and Diane Lane, Paris Can Wait; Emirati director Abdulla Al Kaabi's award-winning Only Men Go To The Grave; and a series of Saudi Arabian shorts that are being shown in the UAE for the first time.

Screenings are at 7pm and 9:30pm, the full schedule is available online, and through their social media channels. An entrance fee of AED 35 applies, which goes towards supporting the independent cinema movement in the city, popcorn and other refreshments can be purchased on-site.
