The annual white truffle charity auction has been taking place in Alba for 18 years, and is about to come to the Middle East for the first time, on November 12.
Here's how it will all go down:
The Dubai auction will take place from 4pm onwards, simultaneously with the one in Alba, as well as another parallel auction in Hong Kong, all of which will be linked via satellite. Five truffles will be auctioned off, in a closed-door event with exclusive VIP invitees only (have you got yours in the post?!), with the winning bidders getting a gourmet dinner cooked up by star chefs such as Gary Rhodes and Reif Othman, using the truffle, as part of the package. The final signature truffle will be auctioned in a global simulcast, which is expected to break the record for world's most expensive truffle - by a bidder from Dubai, it is estimated. Proceeds from Dubai's auction will go towards the Al Jalila Foundation.
The proceedings culminate in a gala dinner (featuring white truffle, naturally) at the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre - which is where the auction will also be held - with the menu designed by Italian super chef Giorgio Locatelli, and Maurizio Lazzarin, head chef of Casa Mia restaurant, serving it up. The menu features delicacies such as Egg yolk raviolo, butter sauce and white truffle, Grana Padano, and Braised beef ribs with truffle polenta and porcini mushrooms.
The auction proceedings will be broadcast on large screens in the hotel ballroom, so foodies can book in for the entire experience along with dinner. Organised by the Italian Restaurant Consulting Group, the event is priced at AED 200 per person, including cocktail reception.
