Murata is the third generation chef-patron of the celebrated Kikunoi Honten, a 100-year-old ryotei (luxurious traditional style Japanese restaurant) in Kyoto, which holds three stars. He also has two stars apiece for Kikunoi Roan (also in Kyoto), and Kikunoi Akasaka, in Tokyo. Murata was also behind Chrysan restaurant – a sibling to international success story Hakkasan, which ceased trading just seven months after opening.
The restaurant replaces (on Conduit Street) the long-standing Japanese restaurant, Sakura. The French-trained chef is best known for his kaiseki (Japanese haute) cuisine – a traditional menu of small courses, featuring seasonal vegetables and fish and renowned for its low calorie count.
It is expected to open in late summer 2015.
