London’s burgeoning burger scene welcomes a US import, with the opening of the first (of many) branches of California-based burger chain Fatburger.

Following on from the huge success of other stateside additions (including Shake Shack and Five Guys), Fatburger is uniquely famous for serving up grilled (cooked-to-order) burgers (in various sizes from small to 3XL) with fresh, lean meat (despite their name) accompanied by fries - cooked in 100% cholesterol-free oil. Also on the menu - hand-battered onion rings, grilled or crispy chicken sandwiches, Jennie-O Turkey burgers and Boca veggie burgers, 100% real ice cream milk shakes, ice cream sandwiches and root beer floats.

Fatburger was originally founded (in 1952) in Los Angeles, as "Mr. Fatburger" and now includes 150 branches worldwide (operating in 25 countries) and achieved cult status due to numerous references in hip-hop music – both Ice Cube and Tupac Shakur have referenced the restaurant chain. In addition, franchise owners include musician Pharrell (with openings in China) and previously Kanye West (with outlets in Chicago – which have all since closed) – hence their distinctive background music (at their restaurants) of R&B, Hip-Hop and Classic Soul.
