The hybrid gastro-complex from Arkady Novikiv (Russian restaurant guru – with connections to Vladimir Putin, no less) offers an Asian and Italian restaurant.
The Asian menu features all the standby Asian favourites: sushi, soups, tempura, yuzu-scented black cod with miso, and crispy Peking duck with green apple and at lunchtime, ‘up-market’ dim sum is served. The room itself boasts a glass-walled kitchen, market bar (where you can select from the day’s catch) and beautiful (if a little chaotic) interiors.
The Italian offering by Novikov presents somewhat more prosaic surroundings with oak-framed mirrors, handmade tiles and an imposing wood-fired oven. The menu has a distinct ‘up-market trattoria’ feel – serving a range of antipasti to seabass carpaccio, a host of pasta dishes and mains including calf’s liver with butter and sage.
The bar is located in the ‘supperclub-style’ basement, and like a Parisian club, light sculptures hang above leather chairs and a long bar. Drinks are designed by Esther Medina (of Roast, Borough), and work to combine vegetable-based syrups with classically derived (but quite unusual) cocktails.
Impressing a date, occasions
If in the Asian restaurant, try the fine slices of Japanese Hamachi with truffle yuzu soy sauce and fresh black truffle.
