Black Axe Mangal

Chef Lee Tiernan has brought a ‘Metal and Mangal’ restaurant to Islington. The idea was borne out of Lee's appetite for bread, kebab and Mangal cooking...

Black Axe Mangal first started in Copenhagen (as a series of pop-ups) where it quickly became a foodie favourite. Relocating to London, Lee has found a small site in Islington - just seating 22 diners and is open for lunch and dinner as well as offering takeaway. Expect a take on the kebab which is 'an unauthentic, bastardised take of Turkish Mangal and Ocakbasi, with global influences', with a variety of meat options on the menu and a specific focus on offal.

The menu also includes a small mix of Mangal-style and vegetarian dishes, sides, and a selection of speciality breads and sourdough flatbread, baked in the house wood fired oven and there is also a variety of toppings to choose from - for the baked-to-order sourdough flatbread, such as, 'Lamb Offal Flatbread'. Plus fish and larger format dishes is offered at weekends. Expect dishes such as 'Mission Chinese Wing Spice Doner' and 'Smoked Tête de Veau'.

For the drinks; beers, wines and bespoke cocktails from Ryan "Mr Lyan" Chetiyawardana (who was recently crowned International Bartender of the Year at this year’s Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards), is on offer.
