Oriole

A hangout by the team behind much-lauded Old Street speakeasy Nightjar - expect innovative signature cocktails alongside a Latin American-inspired menu, which celebrates the fusion cuisines of Latin America.

After closing its Smithfield site at the end of 2022, London bar Oriole has returned with a permanent space in Covent Garden. Oriole draws “on the adventurous spirit of a bygone era of exploration and discovery”. That partially explains the explorer-style décor - while live swing, jazz and blues should provide drinkers with further distraction. Upstairs is a more casual bar space (the Bamboo Bar) where you can dive into a menu of aperitivo-style cocktails and small plates. Down the stairs, you’ll find a plush basement space reminiscent of the original speakeasy, boasting walls lined with their signature collection of peculiar artefacts and serving Oriole signature and award wining cocktails.

Oriole's food celebrates the fusion cuisines of Latin America, taking inspiration from Nikkei (Peruvian-Japanese), Argentine-Italian and regional Mexican traditions - dishes include sea trout with Torrontés beurre blanc, trout roe and daikon fondant, and a dessert of coconut tres leches with fig leaf sauce and coconut sorbet.
