Phil Howard and his business partner Nigel Platts-Martin sold The Square in Mayfair in March, after 25 years of trading, where it held two Michelin stars and a host of other culinary accolades.
Their newest venture - another site in partnership with Rebecca Mascarenhas (also behind the excellent, one Michelin star Kitchen W8 & Sonny's Kitchen in Barnes), is in Chelsea (previously the Tom Aikens Restaurant), and is now open daily for lunch and dinner.
The eponymous Elystan Street has been outfitted by Clare Nelson Design (they also designed The Ledbury and Chez Bruce), and accommodates up to 64 in the restaurant, and 12 in a private dining room.
The modern British menus have different lunch and dinner formats, but both offer, according to Phil, “delicious, clean, ingredient-led dishes, full of natural vitality. The aim [is], as it always has been, to give great pleasure.”
Neighbourhood dinning
Smoked mackerel velouté with Porthilly oysters, leek hearts and eel toasts; tartare of aged beef with artichoke heart, truffle, Berkswell, beetroot and radish; roast calves’ sweetbread with truffled autumn slaw, seeded nut butter and Mimolette Fillet of cod with lightly curried cauliflower purée, golden raisins, coriander and lime.
Check out their ‘communal table’ daily lunch- in their 12-seat private dining room - just pop in for a casual course or two from a long list of individually priced dishes based on the restaurant menu.
