After 15 successful years in the heart of Islington, D&D London has decided it’s time to ring the changes at Almeida and launch this Italian restaurant, created by Francesco Mazzei of Mayfair's Sartoria.
The authentic trattoria – located just off Upper Street - has been given a totally new look. The restaurant has been inspired by both Francesco’s Southern Italian roots, and by Islington itself, the area he and his family have made their home. Francesco Mazzei continues as Chef Patron of Mayfair's Sartoria.
An ever-evolving menu offers a carefully selected range of charcuterie and cheeses, as well as many of Francesco’s favourite dishes from his homeland and fresh pizzas baked in a traditional wood fired oven in the heart of the trattoria.
The laid-back, modern rustic interiors of Radici created by the renowned David d’Almada of Sagrada studios (also behind The Arts Club and Sartoria) evocative of the "sunbaked, rugged landscapes of Francesco’s native Calabria".
Authentic tastes
Umido di baccala (salt cod with potatoes, tomato sauce, onions, capers and black olives); ferrazzuoli (eggless pasta with southern Italian lamb, pork and beef ragu); and involtino di fegato (calf liver stuffed with pancetta, garlic and sage, served with smoked potato mash).
Radici Aperitivo, a distinctive blend of marsala, prosecco, bergamot and orange; the Pears in Sicily with Sicilian almond, Il Pirus Nonino Williams, and fresh citrus; and the Negroni del Mazzei with Tanqueray Gin, Rosolio, Cocchi Americano and three olives.
