Albertine

Chef Allegra McEvedy's old-school wine bar Albertine in West London...

Chef Allegra McEvedy, a founding partner of Leon, Has taken back the running of the Albertine wine bar in Wood Lane, London that her mother launched in the 1970s and ran until she died. Once a regular for BBC staff in the late 70s and 80s, Albertine is, apparently, the “birthplace of EastEnders”, with its founders writing its first script there and taking the name “Albert Square” from the wine bar’s name.

The wine list hosts some 130 international wines with many available as a glass option. Expect an emphasis on food with French and Italian pastries in the mornings (from 8am) alongside coffee and bacon rolls, and then a fixed format “something for everybody” menu. McEvedy and head chef Roberto Freddi (previously of Blackfoot and Rochelle Canteen) have created a relaxed menu for downstairs (think soups, sandwiches and salads), whilst the upstairs dining room feels more like a restaurant and serving up seasonal British and Italian plates.
