After the critical acclaim of Table 9, the two Gordon Ramsay protégés Nick Alvis and Scott Price (formerly of Verre) went off-grid for a while, occupying themselves with developing casual concepts such as Taste Kitchen, but they are finally back where they belong - on Dubai's buzzy restaurant scene.
Along with their long-time partner, sommelier and front-of-house face Viktorija, the talented chefs have just flung open the doors to Folly, housed in what was formerly Rivington Grill at the Madinat. Cue, impeccable location with stellar views.
The restaurant and lounge makes good use of its multi-level space with the main indoor dining room - done up in a trendy, contemporary style that wouldn't look out of place in Chicago or London - that is also home to an interactive Kitchen Bar (the currently hot version of a chef's table) that seats eight, plus an Outdoor Terrace and lounge with its own bar, and a rooftop bar. Private dining options include a Communal Table for 12, and an ultra-private table for two, The Windtower.
The menu is designed for sharing, and features a variety of ingredient-led concoctions, such as Smoked paprika monkfish cheeks; Omani shrimp, marjoram and lime gremolata; and Lamb saddle, whipped pine nuts and salsa. A well-curated range of biodynamic wines creative cocktails with ingredients such as agave, juniper, grain and malt make this as attractive a destination for the drinks, as it is for the food. As such, they have various Sundowner offerings, plus their take on the brunch, a relaxed 'Weekend lunch on the terrace (from AED 300 per person).
