The original restaurant (opened in 2006) has been converted from an old school bike shed and looks out onto the grassy playground and the trees of Arnold Circus and beyond. This well hidden, daytime gem (open for weekday breakfasts and lunches only) is co-owned by Margot Henderson, wife of Fergus Henderson of St. John, and has a similar culinary approach. Expect the, mainly British, menu to change seasonally (as per the original) with ingredients left mostly to speak to themselves - with a charming, laid-back atmosphere.
The new bar, restaurant and cafe is open all-day and coincides with the announcement of the institute's autumn programme. The upstairs dining room features two sweeping skylights, three large windows overlooking St James’ and a raised podium with an indoor garden. Open Tueday to Saturday, for lunch and dinner.
Modernist simplicity
Pumpkin soup; braised cuttlefish and fennel; quail escabeche; pheasant and trotter pie and Old Spot pork chop with chard and lentils.
