This modern American concept is the first restaurant to open its doors at Dubai's newest waterfront promenade, Al Seef.

Born in Scottsdale, Arizona, and with a presence across the US, this is the first Middle Eastern franchise of this chic yet relaxed kitchen/sushi/lounge concept. But let's talk about the setting first - Al Seef is the newly gentrified waterfront at Bur Dubai's creekside, with developers Meraas bringing the familiar Boxpark-style contemporary aesthetic into the development.

If that wasn't reason enough to visit, then Kona Grill, one of the first few restaurants to open here (there will be lots more shops, cafes, and restaurants opening up in the days to come), definitely should be. It's hip, modern, and upscale yet casual - and it boasts some exceptional views of the Dubai Creek from its terrace.

But don't come here for just the views - the modern American style food, with a distinct leaning towards Asian flavours, all made from scratch with fresh, quality ingredients, is excellent. Highlights of the comforting, crowd-pleasing menu include jalapeno yellowtail sashimi; a miso sake seabass served with shrimp and vegetable fried rice; macadamia crusted chicken with mashed potatoes, and a pineapple-papaya marmalade; and a succulent churrasco of flank steak with chimichurri sauce.
The global menu (where, in true American style, main courses are called entrées!) also includes salads, burgers, flatbreads, and of course, a fabulous selection of sushi - it's in the name! - from classics such as a California roll, to creative takes like checkerboard roll (habanero tuna, avocado, asparagus, yellowtail and spicy motoyaki sauce); and voodoo roll (spicy shrimp, avocado, tuna, green onion, and tobiko).

Dessert offerings include predictably indulgent options like Snickers ice cream pie, fudge brownie, and butter cake. When you wash it all down with their hand-crafted cocktails (yes, it's licensed), this may just end up becoming your new favourite part of town!
