AZABU Miami Beach

The sister of the New York Michelin-starred Sushi Azabu is located inside the Marriott Stanton South Beach.

This is the first step in what Tokyo-trained chef Masatsugu "Masa" Kubo describes as a national expanison plan. Unlike the New York City flagship (which has had a Michelin-star for over 7 years), which is limited to a small underground sushi bar, the Miami Beach space includes a large main dining room with 80 seats, wood decor and an open kitchen so you can observe the staff in action.

Many of AZABU Miami Beach's plates are cooked on a robata, a Japanese charcoal grill, and served in an izakaya dining style, where you can order a variety of small, shareable items - all served when ready versus all at once. The menu include: yakitori, grilled chicken on a skewer; fried rice served tableside on a sizzling toban-yaki (ceramic) plate; sukiyaki, fried meat served with vegetables and sauce and a variety of udon noodle dishes.

As for the Bar Azabu, its cocktail program uses imported ingredients and Japanese-inspired presentation styles served in glassware handcrafted by a Japanese artisan - with 40 premium Japanese whiskys. The restaurant is open daily for dinner from 6pm to 11p.m. and until midnight Friday and Saturday.

Favorite Room

Adjacent to the dining room is The Den, an exclusive "hidden" sushi counter helmed by Tokyo-trained chefs - providing a more intimate experience. The 11-seat bar (made from a Hinoki Cypress tree), accessible only through the kitchen, offers omakase-style dining - featuring local and imported seafood, which is flown in directly from Japan.

Signature Dishes

Wagyu tataki served with a truffle ponzu; an American Wagyu porterhouse cooked on a sumibiyaki; ebi tempura udon, a noodle soup with shrimp tempura; king crab with crab miso, lettuce, and rice, all prepared tableside on a sizzling toban plate; and yakitori momo, chicken thigh skewers served with a charred sweet soy.
