Ukami

Tulum’s only ‘mayapanese’ restaurant serves sushi with a Mexican twist.

Mexican and Japanese may sound like an unlikely pairing but at Tulum’s premier sushi restaurant they’re a great fit. Describing itself as Tulum’s only ‘mayapanese’ restaurant, Ukami serves sushi with a Mexican twist.

Start off with a serving of Ukami’s famous rock shrimp tacos before sampling the eatery’s extensive selection of Japanese-style rolls, where traditional recipes are given a local slant. Highlights include the Konnichiwa roll of the day, usually featuring fresh seafood catches, and the ever-popular Tachidito roll, filled with cucumber, avocado, caramelized onion, spicy tuna and seaweed. If you’re after something heavier, flavoursome bowls, skewers and noodle dishes are guaranteed to fill a hole.
