Caldo Verde at Proper Hotel Downtown

The ground floor main dining space - of the Proper Hotel in Downtown’s South Park - leans heavily into Portuguese-by-way-of-California flavor - from two of LA’s most accomplished restaurant owners - behind Larder, Lucques, A.O.C., and Tavern). Dine on a namesake large format soup as well as seafood like octopus braised in squid ink with olive purée, carrots braised in blood orange and pomegranate and clams with sherry, chickpeas, and onion blossoms. The lounge-bar-restaurant to feature lots of greenery and communal seating - a monolithic Judson Studios stained glass installation serves as the focal point of the rich interiors, nodding to Los Angeles and its historic European culinary influence. 

Signature Dishes

Octopus braised in squid ink with olive purée; carrots braised in blood orange and pomegranate and clams with sherry, chickpeas, and onion blossoms and duck breast with duck dirty rice and kumquats.
