Kato by Jonathan Yao

Acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurant Kato have bought their Taiwanese tasting menus to The Row in Downtown Los Angeles.

The highly acclaimed cooking comes from chef-owner Jonathan Yao, who has done stints at Alma and Coi - the two-Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco. Yao named the restaurant after his favorite character in the comic strip Green Hornet and which was previously housed in a strip-mall spot with sparse decor & a familial vibe in West LA.

The restaurant has re-located to The Row in the Arts District - replacing Melissa Perello's M.Georgina. Expect a more fine-dining restaurant - still with stringently minimalist decor - and a more elaborate tasting menu style, building on his highly rated omakase-style multicourse feasts. The daily-changing tasting menu may include dishes such as a kombu cured kanpachi, and Chinese-style steamed fish - inspired by his mother's recipe - with a fish broth seasoned with rice wine and several aged soy sauce and an epic fried chicken sando, arguably one of the best in the city.
