Mother of Pearl

Ravi DeRossi, whose roster of bars reads like of a roll call of where to drink in New York, has opened his next venture: Mother of Pearl, a revamp of the classic tiki bar.

This spot was once home to the Gin Palace, that is before it was discovered to be sinking into the ground. Such was the damage, that owner DeRossi decided to start over again with a new concept completely - and behold Mother of Pearl, an upgraded take on the tiki bar.

This place is bright and breezy with totem pole bar stools and palm frond light fittings. It has a 70s tropical holiday vibe with none of the tackiness - what they have described as "Postmodern Polynesian" whatever that means.

Clearly that means smartly done tiki drinks - thanks to Thomas Chadwick (of Dram) and Jane Danger (of NoMad Bar, also a part owner) - and Hawaiian-inspired bar bites and bigger plates from Andrew D'Ambrosi of DeRossi's Carroll Gardens seafood and cocktail joint Bergen Hill. Don your lei and get involved.
