Just off the Sunset Strip, the London West Hollywood hotel continues to make stylish improvements. A new screening room, then a magnificent new penthouse suite with design inspired by Vivienne Westwood and now, a brilliant new rooftop bar and restaurant. The Rooftop West faces across the entire L.A. basin from downtown to the beach; it’s behind glass windbreaks so even though it’s practically amongst the clouds, the outdoor setting is remarkably pleasant.
Order housemade drinks by the bottle (the Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice and tequila is ultra-refreshing) or small plates and mains from executive chef Anthony Keene (he’s behind the hotel’s restaurant Boxwood and formerly worked with Gordon Ramsay). Tuna rolls, ceviche, avocado toast and a handsome hamburger (topped with grilled kale) are among the choices. Although the views go on for miles, due to neighborhood regulations, Rooftop West is open only Sunday through Friday nights from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
