Where to enjoy the Derby in New York

Now in it's 142nd year, the "two most exciting minutes in sports" is back to give us an excuse to brush up and day drink the best juleps.

It only makes sense that southern styled Williamsburg darling, Belle Shoalsis having a big party on their recently opened backyard terrace complete with it's own julep bar. With loads of comfort food on hand, plus a live band, best seersucker/hat competitions, ballots and all the races shown on their multiple screens, it's a lovely day out.   

Saxon + Parole are holding their annual Derby party with plenty of juleps, derby-inspired snacks, and loads of raw bar treats. For $90, get unlimited juleps, rose, bubbles and bites to keep you going to get involved in some horse-race betting for a chance to win prizes. 

If you're after a good view to go with your races, The Roof is ideal for soaking in the skyline. With a whole special julep menu, grab a spot and nibble on chicken-fried-oysters and Derby pie with a southern jazz soundtrack. 

Maison Premiere, hot off the heels of their James Beard award for Outstanding Bar, are throwing a classy affair with their signature juleps and oysters available till 2am. While showing the live broadcast, their kitchen will be open for regular service until midnight.

Not content to let the horses have all the fun, Hudson Common in the Upper West is having a proper party where you can get involved in some carnival games in support of the ASPCA Equine Program, a coalition to ban horse drawn carriages.  Tickets are going for $49. 

Former speakeasy, 21 Clubis encouraging you to dress in your Derby finest and get involved. With two hours of southern favorites, along with two juleps or glasses of bubbles, and phenomenal decor, this is a classic .
