Here's Looking At You

One of the most exciting new openings, this restaurant in Koreatown comes from Lien Ta and Jonathan Whitener, the former Animal manager and chef de cuisine.

The 50-seat restaurant is serving a sort of forward-thinking, fusion menu centered on "SoCal food". This means menu influences span the globe, from Mexico to Vietnam, and of course the local farmers market. Dishes are listed only by ingredient on the menu — kohlrabi and hazelnut dukkah; duck hearts and grits; nectarines and Syrian feta - and the meu is divided into vegetables, seafood, meat and poultry and dessert sections.

The space features slate grays, dark woods and some rustic and personal touches such as books and knickknacks on shelves, plants scattered around the room, and even a little taxidermy. There's also a tiki-inspired cocktail list with concotions including the Tropical Medicine made from roasted pineapple-infused 100-proof Cutty Sark, fresh lemon & ginger, roasted pineapple, a splash of Ardbeg.
