Some may remember the massive Japanese fusion club/restaurant that suddenly closed its two locations back in 2014. Well, it has a new lease on life, courtesy of Jon Bakhshi of Beautique who bought the rights to the Ulta Lounge last year. Although the New York locations were dark for a while, the Megu brand has been busy, expanding across the globe with sites in, Doha, Moscow, New Delhi, and Gstaad. Finally, NYC can rejoin the party.
Open in the Chelsea Dream Downtown hotel, this new space is a 145 seat number which took over the 5,000 square foot space left behind from the now closed Cherry Izakaya restaurant. Dark and sultry, with a dining room, sushi bar, and club-esque bar space, This new location follows much of the other Megu's including it's previous NYC locations.
The food has been tweaked a touch with executive chef Frances Tariga-Weshnak, the former chef de cuisine at Catch and a Top Chef contestant, making the menu a bit more traditional although some of the classic Megu dishes is still present with plenty of Kobe beef abound.
