This new fried-chicken-and-eggs spot in Playa Vista offers breakfast and lunch favorites made from premium ingredients.

The Chicken or the Egg is the brainchild of two alums of the fast-casual Mendocino Farms sandwich chain. The two have designed a restaurant concept offering breakfast and lunch and featuring egg-based and chicken sandwiches using top quality ingredients, like organic eggs from Chino Valley Ranchers, artisan bread from local bakery BreadBar and organic and free-range chicken from Mary’s in central California.

The signature breakfast sandwich may comprise a basic bacon, egg and cheese but there’s nothing basic about it. The organic eggs are from cage-free hens and have a really dark delicious yolk, while prime bacon comes with a sweet-smoky maple glaze, a hydroponic tomato is caramelized, along with a cheddar-cheese crisp that adds texture rather than gooey melted cheese. All this is wrapped in a brioche that is perfectly sized for an egg sandwich guaranteeing the optimum filling-to-bread ratio.

On the breakfast menu highlights include steak and eggs, benedicts, and straight plates of breakfast meat and eggs. For lunch and dinner there are salads and lots of poultry, from fried chicken sandwiches to buckets of bird served with sides ranging from sweet potato waffle fries to maple brussels sprouts.
