The ‘pop-up’ coincides with the closure of Restaurant Story (closed from 31 March), while it undergoes a complete interior renovation, which will see the restaurant’s look evolve to reflect Tom’s development as a restauranteur.
Named to pay tribute to Tom’s upbringing in Nottingham, ‘Merry Men’ references the band of outlaws that followed Robin Hood. The pop-up draws on Tom’s passion for history and provenance by bringing elements of storytelling into the menu.
Expect a banquet-style menu reflects Tom’s dedication to seasonal, refined and artfully conceived dishes with the focal point of each meal being traditionally prepared meats, alongside drinks selected by Story’s Head Sommelier.
The 60-seat venue is located in nearby 32 Southwark Street, London, SE1 - a 19th century warehouse, and is open for dinner Wednesday-Saturday and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets (bookings available from 19th February) are priced at £60.27 for four courses including a drink.
Historically-inspired dishes, immersive dining
A bar accommodating up to 40 guests serves a woodland-themed cocktail menu created by mixologist Matt Whiley and supported by Bombay Sapphire, alongside a smaller snack menu called ‘Pig Tales’.
Bone marrow, eel and parsley; smoked haddock in milk; braised and hot smoked lamb leg, anchovies and capers; beef cheeks in hay; and Lardy cake with salted blackberries and cultured ice cream.
In true ‘Merry Men’ style, each Wednesday the ‘pop-up’ hosts a guest chef, such as Jason Atherton on 18 April, who will collaborate on a menu and cook alongside Tom.
