Broken Shaker

A cocktail bar at the Freehand Hotel New York from an award-winning team.

Broken Shaker, created by Gabriel Orta and Elad Zvi, the founders of Bar Lab, has already been established in Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles. Now, in collaboration with the owner of the Freehand hotels, the Sydell Group, it has set up shop on the roof of the Freehand. It joins other food and beverage outposts at the hotel, including Simon and the Whale and the George Washington Bar.

Broken Shaker is a Caribbean-themed cocktail bar with both an indoor-outdoor setting and 360-degree views of the city. Designed by Roman and Williams, whose previous projects have included The Standard, The Ace Hotel and Le Coucou, the bar features a bohemian-inspired décor with wood paneled walls and wicker lighting, as well as lush greenery.

Signature drinks include a preserved lime caipirinha, a strawberry “rye tai” made with Wild Turkey 101 rye, and a bagel fizz starring gin, aquavit and powdered cream cheese. Bar food includes arepas, a chicken schnitzel sandwich and shrimp escabeche.
