Chulita

Botanas y mezcales, or “Mexican drinking food” is the focus of this new Westside spot where Tulum beach shack meets Venice Beach.

Designed by restaurateur Shireen Imani, Chulita aims to create a true neighborhood gem, having taken over the former Superba Snack Bar space on Rose Avenue.

Showcasing authentic Mexican food and artisans, she has incorporated finds from past travels to Mexico into the design, including hand-loomed textiles from an Oaxacan weaver, handmade plates from a small town of potters outside Jalisco, and cypress wood from Mexico that serves as the bar top and dining benches. Guests have the option of dining in the cozy dining room, at the bar, or on the covered and heated patio.

The menu features classics such as guacamole and chips, ceviche, sweet potato taquitos with vegan jalapeño aioli, pozole, and squash blossom quesadillas. And of course there are tacos (beef or pork cheek, fish, chicken, or Japanese eggplant) on heirloom corn or cassava flour tortillas as well as fish and steak entrees.

If U want to while away an afternoon chilling to Mexican vibes and watching the hustle of Rose Avenue, Chulita is the perfect place for U.
