Named after philanthropist and Hammer board member Audrey Irmas, is part of a multi-phase renovation and expansion of the Hammer Museum in collaboration with architect Michael Maltzan. Set in the museum’s courtyard, Audrey features interiors by Fettle Design as well as a prominent tile installation from renowned Cuban-American artist Jorge Pardo.
Chef Giffen previously headed up the kitchens at Maison Premiere and Sauvage in Brooklyn and also worked with three-star chefs Daniel Boulud and Alain Ducasse. Restaurateur Forrest meanwhile worked at Le Bernardin, the three-Michelin-starred seafood restaurant in Manhattan.
The menu offers elevated and soulful cooking with a contemporary Southern California touch and a focus on seasonal produce. There’s an emphasis on European flavors and techniques, with highlights such as celery root soup with trout roe and crème fraîche toast and dill; black cod with puntarelle, sunchoke purée and sauce gribiche; or turmeric roasted chicken with sweetheart cabbage and pickled golden raisins. The food is complemented by a full bar offering fresh, bright cocktails and a diverse wine list featuring small-production winemakers.
L.A.'s newest museum restaurant, Audrey at the Hammer is definitely worth a visit and an ideal spot for a light lunch, sit-down dinner or casual cocktails.
