Located in Jean Paul Gaultier’s old Philippe Starck-designed flagship store in Galerie Viviene, Daroco was a much-awaited addition to the city’s restaurant scene. The 4,300 square foot space offering a high-end trattoria fare and a high-end trattoria dining experience is run by Alexander Giesbert and Julien Ross. The duo are already a culinary success in the city following their already renowned launches of Roco pizzeria, Rococo néo-kébab and Roca bistro.
Giesbert and Ross decided to preserve the location fashion history by inviting architects Olivier Delammoy and Francesca Errico to do retain the theme along with French contemporary artist and tattooist SuperKitch to create funky wallpapers for Daroco as well as glass installations for the restaurant’s two-floor interior. Also in keeping with the establishment Jean Paul Gaultier history the waiter's sailor-stripped T-shirts are yet another nod to JPG’s history at 6 Rue Vivienne.
Open seven days a week the restaurant has a capacity of 170 covers, while the accompanying bar Danico run by celebrated mixologist Nico de Soto (previously of the Experimental Cocktail Club) offers another 20-seat. Do try one of the house signature cocktails Green Alligator – Pernod, Absinthe, coco milk, pandan leaves, syrup and egg. And the much raved about bucatini alla carbonara made with pasta from Gragnano, a little Neapolitan hillside village. The duo has a tendency to pick up fresh produce from their travels thus creating a constant array of new dishes.
